(Rashon, Mom Ruth, Mirande, and their godmother, TamTam)
I met Rashon, 8, and Mirande, 5, first on the Arkansas Heart Gallery photo-listing. I’ve known for most of my adult life that I was meant to create a family through adoption. I did not always know that my family would be created through the foster care system or that I would instantly know which children would be mine by seeing them first in a photo. I am fundamentally amazed that my forever family started with photos. After seeing Rashon’s picture in 2006, I made a call which started my process to becoming a mother. Two years after Rashon’s adoption was finalized, one of my co-workers asked for the web address to the Arkansas Heart Gallery. I had not planned on being the mother of two, but when I pulled up the website, I realized that Rashon would soon be a big brother. Mirande was ours! Along with twenty-seven family members and friends, we joyously celebrated her adoption finalization in March 2012. Today, Rashon is an independent-minded second grader who loves his Mommy more than anything. He expresses daily how much he loves his family and plans to be a race car driver when he gets older! Mirande is a determined preschool student who loves listening to music, plays the piano every day, and loves to wear flashy rings. Our family is blessed beyond measure because of adoption. Because of adoption, our family unconditionally loves and receives love, we see the joy of permanency for both children, and are constantly amazed at Rashon’s and Mirande’s growth and progress.
