Every child on the Heart Gallery has experienced some kind of trauma in their life that has led them here. Those traumas come in all shapes and sizes, and the behaviors those traumas create are as varied in type and intensity as the traumas themselves. Our sweet friend Makenzie has endured some really difficult traumas in her young life, and it has created some equally difficult behaviors and reactions. It’s not who Makenzie is deep down, but it’s all she’s ever known as normal. That cycle of behavior is hard to break, but Makenzie has never backed down from a challenge. She knows she has some trauma to process and that she must re-learn how to interact with people in a safe and healthy way. And she is working so hard in treatment right now because she desperately wants to find the perfect forever home. She knows who she is and who she wants to be, and she needs someone like you to help her find her way back to the sweet young lady who she was always meant to be. That’s going to require a family with no other children in the home. It’s also going to require a family committed to following a safety plan. Helping Makenzie re-learn better behaviors will not be easy, but it will absolutely be worth it. She is an amazing young lady who was never allowed to experience the goodness in this world. It’s time for a family to step up and be the family that Makenzie has always wanted and deserved and help her realize that there is more to life than she’s known so far. So much more.
